Agricultural systems Unit
This unit works with the relevant stakeholders to co-build the agro-ecological transitioning of land areas and food systems, and to establish objective criteria for the sustainability of the alternatives explored through holistic and systemic approaches.
Objectives
Working with the relevant stakeholders to co-build and establish objective criteria for the performance of more sustainable agri-food systems established in their areas.
Co-building and testing agro-ecological practices and transition paths in agricultural systems, based in particular on collaborative multi-disciplinary research.
Quantifying and modelling biophysical flows (N, P, K, greenhouse gases, biodiversity,...) between the different components (crops and livestock, between crops from a rotation,...) of systems and areas, and between the latter and their environments.
Working in particular with the relevant stakeholders to identify innovative solutions that can be harnessed for the development of more sustainable agri-food systems, and characterising their performance in cooperation with the other CRA-W units involved, as well as the incentives and obstacles for their adoption.
