American biologist and zoologist Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was known for her advanced research and writings on ocean life and environmental protection. She started her career as a biologist before devoting herself fully to writing. Her different works – on life under the ocean and environmental protection – become bestsellers, and her book ‘Silent Spring’ (1962) led to national policy on pesticides being overturned. This book helped launch the worldwide ecological movement.
