Context
The SRC-GAZEL project aims at generating electricity from cultivated biomass and especially from Short Rotation Coppice.Objectives
Studying the technical feasibility of the entire process, comprising :- fully-controlled production of Short Rotation Coppice ;
- harvest of Short Rotation Coppice and conditioning it into fuel ;
- gasification of this fuel in small-capacity units and processing of gas into electricity according to demand.
Analyzing the impact of the process on the environment :
- crop aspects : inputs, biodiversity, landscape ;
- characterization, analysis and use of processing discharges – solids, liquids and gases ;
- any other aspects.
Description of tasks
The taking part of the Department in this project is double.Results obtained
The equipment necessary to the carrying out of the different steps of the growing of TtCR is assessed in a qualitative and quantitative way. The costs linked to the utilization of this equipment are also calculated (plantation, maintenance, harvesting, transport, storage and drying).During the tests linked to the harvetsing mechanization, the TtCR productivity (MS/ha year) was calculated, in Belgian conditions.
At last, the project defines harvesting methods and the production costs of the fuel linked to it.
